The priest shot and killed in downtown Phoenix Wednesday night attended seminary outside of Lincoln.
Twenty-nine-year-old the Rev. Kenny Walker (pictured far right) attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary in Denton, Nebraska for seven years. Walker was fatally wounded and another priest, the Rev. Joseph Terra, was assaulted at the Mother of Mercy Mission. Rev. Terra remains hospitalized in critical condition
The 56-year-old Terra was able to call 911 and administer last rites to Walker despite his injuries just after 9 p.m. Police say they are unsure how many attackers were involved and if robbery was the motive. A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest.
Those who mentored Walker were shocked when they heard what happened. "Couldn't believe it," said Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix spiritual director James Buckley. " Ever since I was informed about the shooting, I was thinking about poor Kenny and how tragic the event was." Buckley described Walker as a "serious, devout, pleasant, cheerful young man."
