Sound of the Season, Testing Set to Begin

By the middle of the summer you'll shake it off as part of your typical week but the first couple of storm siren tests can be a bit of a wake up call. Douglas County Emergency Management has announced their schedule for testing.

The first routine monthly test will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 6, 2013. This will be a single sounding. Routine monthly testing of the Outdoor Warning Siren System will also take place at 11:00 AM on April 3, May 1, June 5, July 3, August 7, September 4 and October 2, 2013.

There will be another sounding on March 27, 2013 at approximately 10:00 AM as part of the National Weather Service Severe Weather Awareness Week. The actual time of the sounding will be based on an announcement by the National Weather Service.

Sirens will also be tested on Saturday, March 23, 2013. As part of our visual siren test protocol on this day, there will be at least two soundings and possibly three. The first siren sounding will be at 10:00 AM, the second sounding will be at 10:30 AM and if a third sounding is needed, it will be at 11:00 AM.

It should be understood that on occasion, individual sirens may also be sounded throughout the year as part of general maintenance activities if needed.

Routine testing of sirens is on a weather-permitting basis and will not be performed if threatening weather exists.
