Big Turnout For Shred Day At WOWT

When it comes to helping you protect your identity, Channel 6 has you covered. Thursday’s shred event brought in 35,600 pounds of paper.

With each bag and each box, documents headed to the shredder piled up. For at least the first hour, vehicles were backed up at 35th and Farnam, waiting to reach the drop-off site in the WOWT parking lot. But the Channel 6 team kept things moving right along.

“I was hoping it would go very quickly and it did, it went very quick,” said Amy Mayberry of Omaha.

This was one of the biggest events Shred Safe has been a part of. “We do about four or five of them a month,” said Shred Safe’s Matt Reager. “This one definitely blows all of them away though. It's a pretty good turnout.”

It was a quick way to safely get rid of things that may have sat around for years but were too sensitive to throw in the trash. “I've got documents from 1975 and I thought I should start getting rid of them now,” said Terry Johnson of Omaha.

“Just protecting our identity and knowing it's handled in a proper way,” said Denise Ostrom of Omaha.

The industrial strength shredders devoured trash cans full of paper at one time. The finely shredded paper will eventually be turned into pulp and recycled. All of this was provided for free.

“Thank you from the central part of Omaha because we always kind of get overlooked,” said Louise Franco of Omaha. “We're either way out at 194th and Fort or way out in Papillion somewhere. This is great. You know this is great. I really appreciate it. Tell that bum Dave Webber to get out of bed.”

Thanks again to all of our viewers who came out for Shred Day and a special thanks to Shred Safe and the Omaha Paper Stock Company for making the event possible.
