The suspect in a car chase in Sarpy County Monday afternoon has died.

The chase came to an end around 3:30 Monday afternoon at the Kenney Gate to Offutt Air Force Base. Broadcasts over police radios indicate the armed guards from Offutt fired on the suspect, and that the suspect was hit.

General Don Bacon told Channel 6 the security officer who shot the suspect did as all the security officers are trained to do.

Traffic in the area was being shut down but video from the scene via the Channel 6 Live View indicated traffic was still moving on Ft. Crook road. A caller to Channel 6 who was on the base said traffic trying to leave the base was a standstill.

The Kenney Gate is the main entrance to Offutt off of Highway 370.

Police broadcasts indicated that the man driving the car was hit by gunfire. He was described as a middle-age male. The car he was driving was blue with Nebraska plates.

The suspect hit by gunfire was taken from the scene by a medical helicopter. Monday night Sarpy County Sheriff Jeff Davis told Channel 6 the suspect was killed in the shooting.

Several law enforcement agencies appear to have been involved in the chase before the suspect was shot, but an officer at the scene tells Channel 6 News any additional information will be coming from Offutt.
