Construction has started on the old Loveland Shopping Center site at 90th and Center Streets.
The site of a popular restaurant, Senor Matias, was closed almost two years ago and the center quickly torn down but now crews are preparing the lot for new construction.
Men and machines are crowed onto the former Loveland Shopping Center lot at 90th and Center Streets.
Moving dirt out and pouring cement, the future is on its way but the neighbors aren't sure what businesses will be a part of the new retail center.
Warren Little says, "Rumors and hopes, we haven't been given any idea. We know they want a high level company to come in and they're designing the building on that basis."
Many still remember Senor Matias, the restaurant was a staple for the people in the neighborhood but now neighbors are ready for the next phase.
Warren Little says, "We missed it I guess but it was getting old and obsolete."
Warren says the developer, Slosburg Real Property, has kept everyone informed of progress and plans but he is quick to add; no one knows what will business will be the anchor for the new shopping center.
Warren Little says, "We have plenty of banks in the area and grocery stores and drug stores even. We need other types of businesses."
Little says he hope the new center opens within a year's time by then all of his new business neighbors should be known.
Slosburg Real Estate Company says that the shopping center will consist of 44,000 feet of upscale restaurants, specialty boutiques and service retailers that will compliment the neighborhood.
It will have an all brick finish, and the steel should be going up in the next 30 days.
The hope is to deliver space to tenants at the start of 2014.
"This project has been a long time coming, so we are excited to be moving into the next stage of development," said Leigh Andres, Commercial Marketing Manager of Slosburg Company. “We have received a lot of interest and are working to solidify the best tenant mix for the center and neighborhood.”
