A security guard avoided injury when two shoplifters armed with pepper spray and attitude wouldn’t allow him to get in their way at the Nebraska Crossing outlet mall near Gretna.
It was an expensive Michael Kors purse that was stolen. “Boom, she grabs it and swings it up in the air,” says Mark Hanson with Frontline Security. “I can't really repeat it. She was cussing me out for following her.”
Hanson followed the women to their vehicle in the parking lot. He can't apprehend, but did capture the two on his cell phone camera, taking their faces and their license plate.
Security video shows them back up toward Hanson, then turn at him before speeding away. “She rolled her window down and starting talking about pepper spraying me and so I got out of the way and when I was at the back of the vehicle she tried to back toward me.”
If caught, the two suspects will face more serious charges than just shoplifting a $500 handbag. “Any sort of an assault with a vehicle could be considered deadly, which is a first-degree assault,” says Sarpy County Sheriff’s Department detective Matt Barrall.
The vehicle had an Iowa dealer’s plate that may have been altered or stolen. “I never thought they'd try to back over me,” says Hanson, who adds aggressive suspects seem willing to do anything to avoid capture. “They are very aggressive and willing to assault.”
Anyone with information about the theft or suspects is asked to call Sarpy County Crime Stoppers at 402-592-STOP.
