Update: Shooting In Small Iowa Town

In a press release sent out Thursday, May 12th the Iowa Department of Public Safety says 68-year-old Frank Harley McCoy phoned authorities and informed them he had shot and killed his wife, 68-year-old Karen McCoy and planned to kill himself.

Local authorities requested assistance from the Iowa Department of Public Safety.

Officers surrounded the McCoy home and tried repeatedly to contact anyone inside. All attempts failed.

Officers then formed an entry team and conducted a tactical entry into the home. There they found the bodies of Frank and Karen McCoy.

Autopsies will be performed at the State Medical Examiner's Office in Ankeny, Iowa.

Shambaugh is a town just south of Clarinda, Iowa population 167 according to the U.S. Census.
