Hospital officials say Dr. Curtis Case was released from Creighton
University Medical Center Wednesday afternoon, one week after the shooting at Millard South High School.
Dr. Case released the following statement on Thursday:
"My heart is broken and weeps for Vicki, Ron and the loving Kaspar family. My heart is filled with joy and pride in all I have witnessed over the last week from the students, families and Millard community. My heart is bursting in anticipation at being back with the Millard South family. Words cannot express the love I have for my the staff, students and community of Millard South. I am finally home, but I still need time to heal. I will see all of you very soon. Thank you for your prayers, cards and gifts."
Police say Dr. Case was shot after 17-year-old Robert Butler Jr. used his police detective father's handgun to fatally wound assistant principal Dr. Vicki Kaspar. Butler then fired at a custodian and missed before fleeing the school and killing himself.
Butler had been suspended by Dr. Kaspar a few hours before the shooting for driving on the school's football field on New Year's Day.
Dr. Kaspar's funeral was held on Tuesday.
