The Douglas County Sheriff's Department suspected one of their own of engaging in criminal conduct and contacted the Nebraska State Patrol to investigate.
A jail booking report shows Kristin Jones was arrested early Friday morning for controlled substance - intentional. Jones is a Douglas County sheriff’s deputy assigned to clerical work in the office.
Douglas County Attorney George Thompson told WOWT 6 News Jones allegedly gave false information to a pain specialist to obtain more painkillers, sometime between December and March. According to Thompson, Jones didn't tell the specialist about past prescriptions.
Thompson said his case load has doubled due to people with injuries or medical conditions who get hooked on painkillers and then break the law to obtain more. He added that many do not have a previous criminal history.
