A 10 TO 20 year sentence for a former Cass County resident. He sexually assaulted an underage girl. The Cassgram reports that 46-year-old Timothy C. Bobbett, most recently of Fremont, had accepted a plea agreement in May and pled guilty to first degree sexual assault, a Class II Felony. Cass County District Court Judge Randall Rehmeier handed down the Nebraska Department of Corrections sentence this week.
Bobbett’s name will now be on the state sex offender registry. Rehmeier determined that Bobbett was not subject to registering as a violent offender.
Cass County Attorney Nathan Cox said Bobbett sexually assaulted an underage female over a three-year timeframe beginning in January of 2005 while he was living in Elmwood. The victim was in 4th grade in 2005. Part of the plea agreement included the prosecution agreeing not to file any other charges against Bobbett in connection with these incidents. In comments at the sentencing hearing, Rehmeier noted the assaults had been ongoing.
From the pre-sentence report, Rehmeier said he ascertained Bobbett was pre-occupied with sex, was bored, and had been socially rejected. The judge termed it a “particularly egregious” crime.
Under Nebraska sentencing guidelines, Bobbett must serve at least five years before being eligible for parole and mandatory release would occur after 10 years.
He had been free on $50,000 bond since his arrest last March.
