The week of March 25-29, 2013 has been designated as Severe Weather Awareness Week in Nebraska and Iowa. This week is utilized by the public, government and businesses to raise awareness, prepare, test, and practice procedures for what we would do during a severe weather event.
A statewide tornado drill will be conducted by the National Weather Service on Wednesday, March 27th between 10 and 11 a.m. CDT. The drill begins at 10 a.m. and the NWS issues a test tornado watch. At 10:10 a.m. the NWS in Omaha issues a test tornado warning. The sirens will go off at that time.
This tornado drill is an excellent opportunity for everyone at work, school, or home to practice their safety measure. It's so important to have a plan in place and to practice it before severe weather strikes.
