Several Accidents South Of Omaha

Cass county accidents over the weekend injury several people. Cass County sheriff’s deputies along with Plattsmouth Fire and Plattsmouth Rescue responded to a one vehicle accident in the area of 24th Street and Ashland Road just after 3pm Saturday.

The Cassgram reports Sheriff Wm. C. Brueggemann says a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier was eastbound on Ashland at a high rate of speed, crested the hill at 24th and went out of control. The driver, 18-year-old Dominic V. Tilson, overcorrected, went onto the south shoulder and then back onto the road and then into the cornfield on the north side of the road for 75 yards.

Tilson was transported for minor injuries to his face and wrist suffered from airbag deployment, said the report. Seatbelts were in use and alcohol is not a factor.

---Later Saturday afternoon, at 5:40pm, the same agencies responded to 72nd Street just north of Ranch Road for another one-vehicle injury accident.

A Ford Explorer driven by Cheryl E. Hardin, 65, of La Vista was southbound on 72nd when the vehicle left the roadway and overturned in the east ditch.

Hardin was transported by Plattsmouth Rescue to Creighton University Medical Center.

The Cass County Emergency Management Agency also responded as fuel was leaking into a waterway.

Christensen, age 71, Omaha, was eastbound on Horning Road and failed to stop at the stop sign at South Chicago Avenue and struck a northbound 1996 Dodge Caravan driven by Todd E. Voyles, age 46, Plattsmouth.

Both men received minor injuries in the accident; Christensen was transported to the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha and Voyles refused treatment at the scene.

Christensen was issued a citation for a stop sign violation and failure to yield the right of way. Both parties were wearing seatbelts.
