Seven Families, Seven Homes, Seven Days

It is an all-out effort to build seven homes in seven days and it is an impressive sight.

It's part of the Habitat for Humanity Builders Blitz and a week from tomorrow seven Heartland families will have new homes and one Metro neighborhood will be transformed.

The Builders Blitz is rejuvenating the area around 37th and Erskine and weaving new families into the fabric of the neighborhood.

For Lucia Kuot her new home means freedom.

Lucia Kuot says, "I like the place and I like having my own place, being an owner and have a chance for my child to play around and having the freedom to move around."

Marry Hei will also receive the keys to her house next Sunday and already feels like a part of the neighborhood.

Marry Hei says, "Mostly I know the people especially Lucia. We knew each other before so we are very excited to be neighbors and live close to each other."

The contractors and sub contractors are working quickly to meet next weekend’s deadline. Communication is the key; the ability to work as a team is something that is learned over time.

For Ralph Marasco this is helping someone out but the real benefit he feels is his.

Ralph Marasco says, "The give back to us is bigger than the give to them. It is an incredible opportunity to help people to live the American dream, to have a house."

And if everything goes according to plan, be able to move into that house next weekend.

The schedule calls for the homes to be 90% complete by Thursday. The homes will be inspected then and a block party has been planned for that day.

The keys will be turned over to the seven families next Sunday, June 10th.
