The westbound lanes of Interstate-80 were tied up for nearly four hours Monday, while the police reconstruction team investigated a fatal crash.
According to police, A 1996 Buick Regal was parked on the painted median of westbound I-80, at the merge of I-480 southbound/I-80 westbound/Highway 75 northbound. A 2007 Honda Pilot was westbound on I-80 and changed lanes over the painted median. The Pilot collided with the rear end of the Buick.
The driver of the Buick, 38-year-old Brian Pete of Des Moines, Iowa, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Pilot, 26-year-old Sarah Barker of Council Bluffs, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Around 6:45 Monday, the westbound lanes of the interstate were closed at the 13th Street exit. They did not reopen until just before 10 a.m.
Police said alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
