La Vista is flexing its economic muscle. Sergeant’s Pet Care is adding a new facility that will bring 40 jobs with it.
Right now, it's only a framework going up near the Cabela's store but it already has the mayor of La Vista smiling.
Mayor Doug Kindig said, “Obviously they're making an investment in Sarpy county. It's gonna add some jobs to our community and to have an established business choose Sarpy County and La Vista, we're excited."
Once finished, this will become the Sergeant’s Pet Care distribution center. The company already has a production facility just down the street. Sergeant's has been in the area just over two years.
Its current distribution center is in Memphis but in the fall that will all move here. The company likes the location in the middle of the country but that’s not the only reason for the move.
V.P. of Operations, Nick Gubser said, “With the City of La Vista and Sarpy County and Nebraska we were able to achieve some great tax benefits by moving out of the State of Tennessee back to the State of Nebraska."
In the fall, Sergeant’s will be looking for a variety of people. Initially the 350,000 square foot center will employ 40 people with plans to add another 20 over time.
Gubser said, “The people here in Omaha are great folks and we like the work ethic here of course and so we're excited about bringing those jobs back here to Omaha."
The company sells a wide range of pet care products; flea and tick medication among them.
The distribution center will serve the entire country. The plan is to open in October.
