Twenty-six-year-old Laron Hawkins of Omaha has been sentenced to six-years-three-months in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
In addition to the prison time he faces a three year term of supervised release.
The case dates to last September when Omaha police officers stopped a car Hawkins was driving after they saw him commit a traffic violation.
As they made contact with Hawkins, they saw he had a small quantity of marijuana in his lap. A search of the vehicle was done and a stolen .45 caliber handgun was found under his seat.
Hawkins had previously been convicted of a felony offense and, as such, is prohibited by law from possessing firearms.
