The truck driver killed in a fiery crash on Interstate 80 northeast of Neola, Iowa Saturday afternoon has been identified as 41-year-old Harold Salmon of Alpharetta, Georgia.
The Iowa State Patrol says the semi and a car were headed westbound on I-80 just before 4:30 p.m. when the driver of the car veered into the left lane hitting the truck, causing both vehicles to go down an embankment and onto eastbound I-680. The truck then burst into flames.
The driver of the car, 24-year-old Cody Schandelmier, and his passenger, Lisa Rieper, both of Council Bluffs, were taken to Jennie Edmundson Hospital for treatment. An Iowa Department of Public Safety representative said one of the victims had several broken ribs, but their conditions were not disclosed.
