Seized Property Up For Auction

The sounds of the auctioneer, the bidding and of course, the items to bid on -- it's part of the I.R.S.’s efforts to collect unpaid taxes through auctioning off seized property.

Kerri Miller says, "(There is) a lot of great stuff, a lot of great deals very expensive furniture for real cheap." All of these items, seized from five storage sheds in this area are up for the highest bid.

Miller says, "I got great deals, this furniture we got, its $4,000 furniture, (and we) got it for $200.” Reporter asks, “Where do you find something like this?” Miller says, “I don't even know, online, you can't even buy it here in Omaha."

But the I.R.S. says the property up for bid didn't come without a price. Robert Brown, a property appraisal and liquidation specialist with the I.R.S. says, "Unfortunately, we still have folks that don't pay their taxes, when assets are seized for non payment of taxes; we offer them to the public for auction."

For Ron of Papillion, he made the last minute decision this morning to come out. "Fortunately, I did, I thought it was a good buy and to add to my collection, our family is big N-U fans."

Not only did Hostetter grab up a “Husker” football stamped from the 1995 season but he also got a mini “Husker” helmet signed by Eric Crouch and a whole box of collectibles, Hostetter says is happy to make room for in his collection. "It had the two autographs, of Tommie Frazier and Jerry Tagge.”

Today, the I.R.S. says they brought in about $12,000 in lost revenue with about 30 registered bidders.
