Secretary of Defense Visits Offutt Air Force Base

Citizens and soldiers at Offutt Air Force Base had a special guest Thursday.

Secretary of Defense, Chuck Hagel, stopped at the baser.

He made a speech highlighting many topics.

He discussed the changing military, and said his heart was with those suffering through furloughs.

He also took questions from several soldiers.

On the subject of adapting to new threats, Hagel said the increased use of women in combat roles has been vital.

“If they want, if they're qualified, if they can do the job, and why shouldn't they have those opportunities? Why shouldn't they have the same opportunities as men do?” said Hagel.

Hagel also gave out around 200 special coins to soldiers and citizens at Offutt Air Force Base, thanking them for their service.
