Two men are recovering from their wounds after gunfire erupted outside of an Omaha home Sunday morning.

Thirty-four-year-old Antoine Smallwood and 31-year-old Richard Boynton told police they were standing in the front yard of a residence near North 18th and Lake streets when shots rang out just after 2 a.m.

Three vehicles and two homes were damaged by the gunfire. Police say Smallwood and Boynton aren't cooperating with the investigation.

The homeowner, who didn’t want to be identified, told Channel 6 News she lives there with her sons, wasn't home when the shooting happened and doesn't know the victims. She thinks it was completely random that they were shot in her yard.

According to police, an SUV parked nearby belongs to Dianne Boynton. Records indicate she and Richard Boynton live at the house.

“I don't know exactly what happened here, I heard the gunshots because I only live about four doors away." Mark Klinkel says he heard about 20 shots fired.

“North Omaha has violent crime and sometimes when it gets violent it gets real violent,” said Klinkel, who also heard gunshots a few nights ago. “It's so early in the season. I've seen what goes on as the season progresses, but at the same time for it to be this early in the spring and to hear these kind of gunshots, there are so many kids around, that's the thing."
