A young man was critically wounded in a shooting late Sunday afternoon in Omaha.
It happened around 6 p.m. at Fontenelle Boulevard and Larimore Avenue. The victim's name has not been released. Police did tell Channel 6 News Sunday night he is expected to survive.
“The thing that I do when I come up on a scene like this, usually I start praying because I know that that works." Eugene Wells lives in the neighborhood. He didn't hear the gunshots, but he was there as the scene quickly turned emotional. “I hate it with a passion. I'm tired of it and I'm sure you are, too. He's 19 years old is what I heard from family."
“Initially when the call came out there was talk that someone was running around with an AK-47, that was not the case,” said OPD Lt. Mark Matuza. He said police did pull over a car soon after the shooting, but at this point they aren't sure what that person's involvement was, if any.
Like many people, Wells wishes the violence would stop. “It just don't stop. It just seems to get worse and worse every day. Last Sunday, I was passing on Ames and my nephew was on the other side of the car and somebody had just thrown a sheet over a kid in a red car."
