Area Boy Scouts are gearing up to help feed the hungry. Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert helped kick-off Scouting for Food on Friday.
The Scouts will be hitting the streets this weekend and next collecting food that will be donated to local food banks.
For the Scouts, it's a fun way to give back.
Scout John Paul Terneus said, “Food Bank really appreciates it and it’s really exciting for us. We get to collect the food and see how much we collected. When everyone works together it’s just a really fun experience to help the community in that way."
The Scouts will leave flyers on doors this weekend. Then, next Saturday, April 12, they’ll be back to pick up any non-perishable bags of food you leave out.
You can also drop off food all week at your local Hy-Vee store.
