The election took a different turn for students at Trumble Park Elementary School in Papillion this week.
School-wide, students were asked to vote for their favorite candidate using donated food. Each item counted as one vote. As of Monday morning, Mitt Romney was leading. The food will then be donated to the Tri-City Food Bank.
Students say it's a great way to practice for the real thing when they are old enough and to help out a great cause.
"It feels like you are important more than if you are sitting home watching TV or playing a video game than getting food for other people for other people that don't have enough money to get food or don't have enough food,” said fifth-grader Rachel Spinks.
"I feel good because I know that you are helping out someone that doesn't have enough food at home,” said sixth-grader Mary Strawn.
