Weeping Water school addition and renovation plans progressing. The majority of the renovation work is to occur in the summers of 2014 and 2015. The new classroom and front entrance additions are tentatively scheduled for completion by the end of 2014.
The Cassgram reports in his recent newsletter, Superintendent Dr. Ken Heinz brought district patrons up-to-date on what has happened since voters approved an $11.825 million bond question this past May. Voters were asked to consider renovating, rehabilitating and improving the District’s existing K-12 school building. The work will bring the building up to code, construct additions for classrooms and related facilities, and add a competition gymnasium and athletic facilities.
The bond issue passed 60.5% for and 39.5% against.
“A ton of things have been going on behind the scenes,” since then, Heinz told Cassgram. Sampson Construction was chosen as construction manager at risk. Notice to proceed to the design development stage was made in late August.
Improvements to the existing parking lots are also part of the package and a project on Lot #1—east of the Faith Missionary Church—is to be completed yet this year, said Heinz. That will allow students to park there next year and if the weather allows in the spring, construction can start sooner on the new classroom addition on the east side.
