An upcoming scheduled electrical outage at the Iowa Department Of Transportation headquarters in Ames will affect many DOT services across the state.
The outage is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 11th and continue until to 2 a.m. Sunday, August 12th. The outage is associated with scheduled electrical service upgrades and maintenance. Customers and employees are being notified in advance so they can plan accordingly.
The Iowa DOT’s headquarters provides communications and technology services for many of its operations statewide. The outage will affect the following services and systems:
- Landline phones (Ames locations only)
- Fax lines
- Email (all Iowa DOT email)
- Web site (the department’s entire Web site and hosted applications)
- Online electronic forms (If needed, customers may download and print any required forms prior to the outage).

The Iowa DOT will be issuing driver’s licenses August 11th during normal business hours.
Commercial vehicle operators must plan ahead to obtain oversize load and other permits. The EZ-Permit system and fax line will be unavailable.
