Close to 80 OPPD customers are reporting scammers calling their homes. The phony callers are claiming to be OPPD employees.
Theses callers are demanding money, saying that bills are over due.
This is a scam OPPD has seen before. One of the main targets groups has been the Latino customer population.
"These people clearly do not represent OPPD, what they are trying to do is get people to give up credit card numbers, or in some cases they are telling them to go to Walgreens and pick up a Visa gift card, and then come back and phone in those numbers and make their payment," said Jodi Baker, OPPD.
OPPD said some people have fallen for the scam. If you get a call from a suspicious number, hang up and call OPPD 1-402-536-4131.
For houses outside of Omaha, call 1-877-536-4131.
Victims can also call police.
