A woman stabbed Saturday night later died of her injuries at Alegent Creighton University Medical Center. A suspect was arrested.
Police called to 33rd and Pratt streets in Omaha at 7:30 p.m. broke up an assault that left 34-year-old LaVern Eubanks with critical injuries.
Thirty-five-year-old Bobby Wallace Sr. was booked for second-degree murder, use of a weapon to commit a felony and domestic disturbing the peace.
“When you see something like this, to me, it's a call to get involved and do something and I'm a firm believer that it takes a community to end the violence,” said Women's Center For Advancement advocate manager Sakura Yodogawa-Campbell. “I'm always aware of what's going on in our community and I just always get this gut feeling, especially when I saw that the victim was a woman."
She said that gut feeling told her this was a domestic violence case. “All I can think of is, what more can we do to support these victims? I'm hoping that any time that he spends incarcerated he would also be getting whatever kind of help and support that he needs.”
