Law Enforcement in the area are mourning the death of one of their own. Rick Staack, a member of the Sarpy County SWAT team has lost his battle with brain cancer.
Staack passed away Wednesday morning. He had been undergoing treatment for a cancerous brain tumor.
Lt. Kevin Griger has served with Staack on the SWAT team since it started years ago. “He's the guy that lays out there with the sniper rifle in the middle of the night for hours and hours while you're sleeping in your bed safely because people like him are willing to do that for you.”
Staack has kept in shape and the black belt in self-defense is not one to give up no matter what the odds.
A year ago, Sarpy County Deputy Ryan Faucett lost his fight with a brain tumor. Lt. Griger says the department of 130 has faced enough of that type of cancer in its ranks. “It’s unbelievable for the sheriff's office to have two deputies with brain tumors in the span of two years. It’s just unfathomable for us.”
