A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for Pawnee and Richardson counties in southeast Nebraska until 3 p.m. Thursday.
Sarpy County Sheriff's Department Lt. Russ Zeeb retired Friday on his 60th birthday after 39 years on the job.
He said he’s happy to wrap up his career safely and hopes that along the way he helped a lot of people.
“I got a letter in the mail the other day from a mother. I covered her son's suicide in 1983 and she apparently read the article in the newspaper and sent me the nicest letter that, you know, when you look back 30 years that someone remembers and knows that you were there for them and I made the notification for her that her son was gone, that makes you feel good 30 years later."
Lt. Zeeb said the work he takes the most pride in was working with anti-drinking and driving organizations, especially those involving underage drinkers.
