With two weeks to go until Election Day, the Sarpy County Election Commission says it has already broken the early voting record set four years ago.
“As a result of our countywide mailing and the overall enthusiasm of Sarpy County residents, over 21,000 registered voters have already voted or have requested an early ballot be sent to them," Sarpy County Election Commissioner Wayne Bena said on Wednesday.
"A lot of people that would have voted anyway have done it early. It's a little too early to tell how this will translate into turnout on Election Day, but it has made an impact in Sarpy County, 20 percent of voters have already voted."
For those who still wish to have a ballot mailed to them, you have until October 31st at 4 p.m. to send in an early ballot request. Forms may be found at Sarpy.com/election. Voters also have the option to come to the election office to vote in person or take a ballot home with them.
The Election Office is located at 501 Olson Drive in Papillion. Voters have until November 5th at 4:45 p.m. to utilize these two options.
Early ballots can be mailed in or dropped off in the office during business hours or ballots can be dropped of 24 hours a day, seven days a week at the ballot drop-off box located outside the office.
In Douglas County, nearly 4,000 people have voted in person and more than 56,000 have asked for early ballots, with more than 20,000 already returned.
