Those looking to help the Salvation Army restock its food pantries in Omaha are strapping on their running shoes and heading to west Omaha.
The Salvation Army's fourth Red Kettle 5K Run/Walk is being held Saturday morning at Zorinsky Lake. Instead of an entry fee, runners and walkers are asked to bring at least 10 non-perishable food items or $10 toward the purchase of food. Pre-registration is not required.
Last year, the Salvation Army filled 8,980 food pantry orders, an average of 700 a day at its two locations.
All participants are eligible to win one of more than $4,000 in door prizes, which include an iPod Touch and restaurant and movie gift certificates. Chick-fil-A Cows also will be on site giving away coupons for free food.
