Lincoln Police have arrested a man who allegedly drove his SUV into a business early Tuesday morning.
Around 3:30 a.m., officers were called out to 1411 Cornhusker Highway on a report that a vehicle had crashed into a building.
Once on the scene, officers found a Nissan Pathfinder against Grime to Shine Detail Shop; the rear wheels were spinning, smoke filled the air and could be seen blocks away.
According to Sergeant Randy Clark, the officers turned off the engine and got the driver, Mathew Birch, out of the SUV.
When Birch was told he was under arrest, he tried to back away from officers and went into the street. A number of officers were able to get Birch to the ground and into custody.
Clark said it appears the vehicle was traveling east when it jumped the curb and hit the building, getting stuck on a steel post within the wall. Rather than backing up, Birch allegedly spun the tires until his vehicle was nosed up to the wall. That's when officers arrived.
Birch was arrested for failure to comply and resisting arrest along with other possible charges related to driving under the influence.
