The Great Plains Colon Cancer Task Force, a group comprised of local health organizations, businesses and volunteers, and Omaha Running Club has announced the date and new location of the Boxer 500 – a SHORT Run to Fight Colon Cancer.
The fourth-annual Boxer 500 will be held on Sunday, August 12th at Werner Park in Papillion, Nebraska. The event features a 5K run/walk, a one-mile walk, a one-mile kid’s run and a kid’s dash (200 yards). Participants are encouraged (but not required) to draw attention to the issue of colorectal cancer by wearing boxer underwear during the event.
This year’s Boxer 500 will begin at 8:00 am at Werner Park (12356 Ballpark Way) in Papillion. Online registration is currently available and will provide individual or team registration as well as online fundraising. Visit www.boxer 500.org for more information.
Last year’s event saw more than 625 participants and event planners are hoping for even more in 2012. “We are excited to be moving to Werner Park this year,” stated Kelli Sweet, Race Director. “The new venue will provide us a premier location to grow our event and to host our post-race activities including a pancake breakfast, live music and kids’ activities. We have seen tremendous support from our community and are especially honored by the teams who are running and walking in support or honor of a loved one who has been affected with colon cancer.”
The entry fee for all pre-registered participants is $25 and day of registration will be $30. Entry fee includes age group awards for 5K participants, an event t-shirt and a reusable grocery bag. Special recognition will be provided to colon cancer survivors. The kid’s fee is only $10 and includes a backpack and participant ribbon. Everyone is invited to the post-event pancake breakfast and live music by Stephen Monroe who is a colon cancer survivor himself.
