Rock Mountain Sale
The Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department is preparing to sell 212 tons of rocks hauled away from a Lincoln residence after the sprawling collection was deemed a health hazard.
The Lincoln Journal Star reports that sealed bids will be accepted until noon on Oct. 12. The prospective buyers must be ready to take possession of all 424,000 pounds and haul it away from a city site. The rocks had been moved there last month.
Neighborhood residents had complained for years about the rocks, which the homeowner had been collecting to use for a stone wall that was never built.
The rocks include some blocks of limestone, the pea-sized stones and Sioux quartzite boulders lusted after by landscapers.
