Road Map To Future Projects

Road map for upcoming construction projects for Fiscal Year 2014 and Fiscal Years 2015 through 2019 released by the Nebraska Department of Roads.

The Cassgram obtained figures that show the estimated costs of all 14 projects on the Fiscal Year 2014 program in District 2 total $54.4 million. Two of the projects in the one-year plan are in Cass County:

-Resurfacing 2.7 miles of the Cedar Creek Spur (estimated cost $1.35 million)

-milling and resurfacing Highway 34 in Plattsmouth (estimated cost $826,000)

The NDOR Five-Year Program lists $300 million in estimated project costs in District 2. Four of the 55 listings are in Cass County:

-7.4 miles of milling and resurfacing on Highway 1 in the Manley area (est. cost $2.57 million)

-5 miles of milling and resurfacing on Highway 1 from Murray west (est. cost $1.83 million)

-Murray viaduct (est. cost $3.2 million)

District 2 includes all of Douglas, Dodge, Sarpy and Washington counties and the northeastern one-half of Cass County.

The rest of Cass County falls in District 1 which also includes Lancaster, Saunders, Seward, Saline, Jefferson, Gage, Johnson, Otoe, Nemaha, Pawnee and Richardson counties.

Of the $64.6 million in projects on the 2014 plan in District 1, none are in Cass County.

In the District 1 Five-Year Program in Cass County

-1.9 miles of resurfacing and bridge work on Weeping Water Spur 13-K ($3.03 million)

-6.1 miles of milling and resurfacing on US Highway 34 west of Union ($4.9 million)

-4.2 miles of milling and resurfacing on Nebraska Highway 63 (US-34 to Alvo) ($1.57 million)

-grading, culverts and resurfacing Nebraska Highway 63 from Alvo north 6.8 miles ($10.4 million)

-Mahoney Interchange phase 2 work ($2.49 million)

-3.7 miles of milling and resurfacing on Highway 66 from I-80 to South Bend ($1.83 million)

-4.8 miles of resurfacing and bridge repair on Highway 66 from South Bend to Highway 50 ($2.75 million)

---The five-year plan includes the completion of the Nebraska Highway 2 and U.S. 75 intersection south of Nebraska City. The stoplights would go away and Highway 2 traffic would ramp over the Highway 75 traffic. ($24.37 million).
