Retail Sales In Smaller Communities Show Boost

Retail sales in August higher for the second month in a row south of the metro.

The Cassgram reports the Nebraska Department of Revenue’s Net Taxable Sales Report, comparing August 2013 to August 2012, shows Cass County with a 2.5% increase to $10,385,444. In the Plattsmouth city limits, August sales were up 2.1% to $4,937,556.

(The July ’13 report had Cass County with a 3.0% sales increase and Plattsmouth with a 2.4% increase over a year earlier.)

Statewide, August 2013 sales were 2.1% higher than in 2012.

The August report for neighboring counties: Otoe [+5.3%], Lancaster [+0.5%], Saunders [+1.9%] and Sarpy [+7.9%].

Nearby cities: Ashland [+14.4%], Bellevue [+5.1%], Nebraska City [+2.5%], Papillion [+6.4%], Springfield [+13.1%] and Syracuse [+6.6%].

---The NDR’s August Net Taxable Motor Vehicle Sales Report said Cass County was down 0.6% when compared to the same month in 2012. Taxable motor vehicle sales totaled $5,283,572.

Statewide vehicle sales were up 2.8%.
