Retail sales numbers are encouraging. The August numbers were higher compared to a year ago south of the metro.
The Cassgram reports the Nebraska Department of Revenue’s Net Taxable Sales Report, comparing August 2012 to August 2011, shows Cass County with a 5.4 percent sales increase to $10,136,206. In the Plattsmouth city limits, August sales were up 7.4 percent to $4,835,136.
The July 2012 report had Cass County with a 3.3 percent sales decrease and Plattsmouth with a 1.2 percent decrease over a year earlier.
Statewide, August 2012 taxable sales were 7.8 percent higher than in 2011. The August report for neighboring counties shows Otoe at a +15.4 percent, Lancaster +8.3 percent, Saunders +0.4 percent and Sarpy +13.8 percent.
Nearby cities show Ashland at a -13.5 percent, Bellevue +5.8 percent, Nebraska City +17.3 percent, Papillion +22.7 percent, Springfield -18.8 percent and Syracuse +4.7 percent.
The NDR’s August Net Taxable Motor Vehicle Sales Report said Cass County posted a 27 percent increase when compared to the same month in 2011. Taxable motor vehicle sales totaled $5,314,947. Statewide sales were up 11.5 percent.
