A DUI checkpoint on Friday, October 28 at 118th and Harrison Streets netted a total of eight arrests. The checkpoint was designed to detect impaired drivers during the start of the Halloween weekend.
The La Vista Police Department combined forces with the La Vista Fire and Public Works departments; Ralston, Bellevue and Omaha police departments; Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office, Nebraska State Patrol and Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
During the operation, 544 vehicles passed through the checkpoint. Enforcement action during the operation included arrests for the following:
• 7 – Driving Under the Influence
• 1 – Felony Narcotics
Criminal citations were issued for the following (all were cited and released at the scene):
• 5 – Driving Under Suspension/Revocation
• 1 – Open Container of Alcohol
• 3 – Possession of Less Than 1 Ounce of Marijuana
• 2 – Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Also, 34 miscellaneous traffic citations and written warnings were issued and nine vehicles were impounded.
The overtime for this operation was made possible by a grant from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety.
