Late Monday afternoon Omaha police released the names of three people shot in a home at 9th & Brancroft. Two of the victims are dead; they are 44-year-old Miguel Avalos and his 16-year-old son Jose Avalos. A second son, 18-year-old Miguel Avalos, Jr. remains in critical condition.
Just before 4 a.m. officers and paramedics were called to an address just south of 9th and Bancroft. The caller reported three people down after a shooting inside a home.
Omaha Police Lt. Darci Tierney says Jose Avalos was declared dead at the scene. His brother and father were taken to the Nebraska Medical Center. The father, Miguel Avalos, died at the hospital.
Neighbors were shocked at what happened.
"They were good people. we've been neighbors for 7 years. They were good people we've never had any problems with them. Dad he was an awesome guy," said neighbor Jennifer Alarcon. "Two people's lives were lost over what? Nobody even knows."
Police were remaining very tight lipped about what happened inside the home.
