Reopening Of Ethanol Plant Set For Spring

A Kansas City-based company plans to reopen a closed ethanol plant near Mead, Nebraska in the next few months.

The former E3 Biofuels plant started in June 2007 as one of the first in the nation to use methane gas from cow manure to power ethanol production. But the Saunders County facility shut down later that year after the company filed for bankruptcy protection.

The plant was sold last December to Spectrum Business Ventures
Inc. Spectrum official Justin Shaw told the Lincoln Journal Star that the plant could resume production by late spring.

The goal is to produce 25 million gallons of ethanol a year. Shaw estimates up to 75 employees will be needed.
