UPDATE: Remembering Father And Daughters Killed In Crash

It was a devastating loss for a heartland family.

Jeffrey Podraza and his 12 and 10-year-old daughters were killed Saturday in a crash near Broken Bow, Nebraska.

Investigators say they were in an SUV that crossed the center line and ran into an oncoming truck.

Today, some of those who know the family spoke about coming to grips with this tragedy.

"You can't ask the question why...because there's no answer and so we must place our faith and trust in God that he will see us through," Father Michael Swanton of St. Wenceslaus Church said.

Outside of the school are three trees representing three lives lost.

"Kellie (the mother of the two girls) is devastated and yet she has many friends that are supporting her, surrounding her and giving her a lot of prayer and so I think having that kind of support is incredibly important," Father Swanton said. "There's no way you can do it alone."

Jordyn and Taylor Podraza attended the school.

Their friends leave messages for their lost classmates.

Rachel Mohr was Jordyn's home room and social studies teacher. She said the 12-year-old always had a quiet joy about her.

"A wonderful smile," Mohr said. "She smiled with her eyes it was beautiful. Really focused on her school work but more importantly she was a really good friend. The girls really looked to her as someone they could trust and that was something even as a teacher we could recognize in her."

Lindsay Boler was Taylor's teacher.

Boler said the 10-year-old lit up the room and was fun to be around.

"My parents just came up and read to the kids for Christmas and as soon as I said her name they knew exactly who she was and she made an impression on them and they were only there for 45 minutes," Boler said.

"It's an incredibly tragic situation," Father Swanton said. "And yet the parish family has really come together as a family to support each other."

A prayer vigil for the two girls will be held at St. Wenceslaus at 7 tomorrow night.

Their funerals are at 10:30 Wednesday morning, also at the church.

Services are still pending for Jeffrey Podraza.
