Remembering Those in Uniform

Tough budget times shouldn’t pose a threat to our men and women in uniform. Retired Navy Admiral Norbert Ryan Jr. brought that message to Omaha Wednesday.

Ryan is head of the Military Officers Association of America. He told a gathering of Rotarians about the challenges shrinking budgets pose to service members and their families.

His organization wants to make sure those service members are not forgotten as congress works to reduce the deficit.

Ryan said, “We've got to make sure that these troops know that we are going to keep our commitments to them and their families. These aren't entitlements. These are benefits that they've been promised. They love their nation but they want to know that their fellow Americans appreciate them and will keep their commitments.”

Ryan wants to make sure those service members with a decade or so of experience stay in the military. He says they are among the most difficult to replace.
