It was a gorgeous day Friday morning but a reminder that severe weather season is here and the Red Cross says we need to be ready.
They offer a few ways to prepare:
Creating and practicing a home tornado plan
Assembling a emergency preparedness kit
Heeding storm warnings
Preparing for high winds
The easiest way to do all of this according to Liz Dorland with the Red Cross, is to download the Red Cross Tornado App but also, the over all goal is to be ready.
“The Red Cross wants people to be prepared, not only at home but be prepared if you are perhaps out at your child's soccer game, baseball game. Where is that shelter at, where is that tornado shelter at? If you are perhaps visiting a park, you want to make sure you have those list of items in check,” Dorland said.
A reminder that tornado sirens are meant to alert those who are outside at the time severe weather hits.
The Tornado App, along with other apps, can be found in the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store for Android by searching for American Red Cross or by going to redcross.org/mobileapps.
