Visitors to outdoor recreation sites in the metro Omaha area are being advised to take care in protecting possessions left in vehicles.

“The outdoor recreation season is here and people visiting our local recreation areas should take normal precautions in protecting their property left in vehicles,” said John Winkler, Papio-Missouri River Natural Resources District General Manager. “Everyone should be vigilant in locking their vehicles, parking in well-lit areas and storing valuables in the trunk area while walking our trails or fishing and boating our lakes and rivers,” he said.

NRD park staff are working with local law enforcement agencies to prevent theft from vehicles parked within Chalco Hills Recreation Area and near local hiking/biking trails.
