A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for northeast Nebraska, including Burt, Colfax, Cuming, Dodge, Madison, Platte Stanton, Thurston, Washington and Wayne counties, and parts of Iowa, including Harrison and Monona counties, until 3 p.m. Saturday.
A Civil War-era quilt known as the most expensive quilt ever sold at auction will be on display this spring at the Homestead National Monument of America in southeastern Nebraska.
The Reconciliation Quilt was bought for $264,000 in 1991, and later donated to the International Quilt Study Center and Museum at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
The quilt was made in 1867, shortly after the Civil War, by Lucinda Ward Honstain of New York. The quilt consists of 40 unique blocks depicting scenes of hope and compassion as the country began to reunite.
The quilt will be on display from May 4 through June 16 in the Monument's Heritage Center, just west of Beatrice.
