If it is not the largest consignment clothing sale in the world it is close. We're talking about the week-long ReRuns R Fun sale in La Vista.
The consignment sale donates a large portion of the money it takes in to local charities. The woman who organizes this, and has done so for the past 17 years, says in just the past eight years, ReRuns R Fun has donated more than $2 million to charity.
It's hard to believe, but this sale started out in Anna Sortino's basement. It has now grown into a multi-day sale where seller and buyer know they've gotten a great deal.
Jessica Boryca doesn't waste time looking for outfits for her 18-month-old child. Boryca's been here before, but this is the first year she's gotten the head start given to first time mothers. Jessica came with a plan to spend $75 and figured she could stick to it.
"Usually I can get a pretty good stack of clothes for that amount. It's a great thing because I can get myself set for the next season and they'll usually have another one in the spring."
Sortino is the whirlwind force behind the consignment sale. It may not seem like it, but the sale had a very humble beginning. "It just started out as a way for a few of us girlfriends to sell our children's outgrown items and then our friends would buy our outgrown items and we would buy theirs."
Now, it is one of those events that people look forward to all year long. Jessica is picking up winter clothing, but she is also using the consignment sale to get a head start on Christmas. "Christmas shopping is pretty much awesome here because I can get things pretty much new in the box and Christmas is pretty much done for me."
ReRuns R Fun always adds something to the mix and this year it is a donation day for the Hope Center. For $10 you can come in a day early and shop before the store opens. That $10 will be matched and donated to the Hope Center.
You may either pay at the door or go online and pre-purchase a pass at ReRunsRFun.org.
