Ralston Mayor Don Groesser has announced activities planed for the grand opening of the new Ralston Arena. Among the events, country singer Rodney Atkins will go down in history as the first act to perform at the new facility.
Atkins’ concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday, October 19th with special guest Kelleigh Bannen.
There will be a public open house Sunday, October 21st. That is scheduled to run noon to 4 p.m. with a ribbon cutting at 2 p.m. Anyone can show up and take a self-guided tour of the arena from the seating bowl to the dressing and locker rooms. Access to premium seating and concession areas is also available. Pepsi & ConAgra Foods will provide free Pepsi and popcorn.
Members of the Omaha Lancers, UNO men’s basketball team and Omaha Rollgergirls, coaches and mascots will be on hand during the open house. An Omaha Youth Hockey Tournament will be played during the day as well.
The city is also hosting a ribbon-cutting coloring contest. Children 6-12 are invited to submit drawings on 8.5” x 11” paper illustrating what they would like to see or do at the arena. One winner will be chosen at random to cut the ribbon October 21st and the winner will receive four tickets to the Lancers game for Friday, October 26th.
Drawings should be dropped off at Ralston City Hall or mailed to 5500 South 77th Street, Ralston, Nebraska 68127. They should be received no later than October 15th. Children need to provide a parent’s name and telephone number so parental permission can be confirmed
The Ralston Arena at 73rd and Q streets features 3,400 seats.
