Due to budget concerns, Ralston Public Schools has been making cuts. Channel Six Fact Finders has learned a number of school psychologists will be laid off.
The superintendent’s office says the school board was considering the elimination of four psychologists’ positions and one elementary school teacher. The board chose to cut the psychologists.
This is expected to be the extent of the certified position cuts. Classified workers --- including custodial and food services--- are considering a voluntary separation offer.
Interested classified workers have until May 1st to accept the offer.
Educators were offered a voluntary separation program beginning in December. Ten initially filed for it. Three others and one classified employee elected to take it when it was offered in early 2013. Their applications were accepted Monday night.
District employees have been aware of the looming cuts for months. A letter outlining the reduction plan was sent out the day before Thanksgiving.
