The peace and calm of one Council Bluffs neighborhood is destroyed by a bottle bomb.

Police are investigating and neighbors have been made aware. Everyone wants to make sure the vandalism is stopped before it has a chance to spread.

It's a serene neighborhood in the heart of Council Bluffs, right across the street from Cook Park, but some here are concerned that one incident of vandalism could grow and change the quiet nature of the neighborhood.

On the west side of the park, deer might outnumber people, quietly observing everyone that comes and goes, but on constant vigil for any trouble.

Tuesday, the quiet on was broken. "Heard a loud boom and I was just sitting in the recliner so I got up and looked out the window, but didn't see anything, it was dark," said Kelly Hallagan.

The next day, as Kelly was headed to work he noticed his mailbox had taken on a new shape and something had split the seams as well. Kelly called police when he looked inside the mailbox. "It's a pop bottle that is just blown to pieces and that's all that you can really see, but you could have smelled it."

The bottle, or what remains of it, has been booked into the evidence locker at the Council Bluffs Police Department. And the one incident shouldn't change the neighborhood. "Absolutely, this is a quiet neighborhood, we've lived here for about 15 years and I've never had any problems."

Well, almost no problems if you don't count the flowers being eaten.
