The Nebraska State Patrol received several reports on an erratic driver on Interstate-80 Sunday. The reports eventually led troopers to discover more than 135 pounds of marijuana.
The calls from drivers were reported just after 11 o'clock Sunday morning. An NSP aircraft was in the area and able to locate the green SUV. It followed the vehicle until a trooper tried to make a traffic stop near the L Street exit.
Instead, the driver took off. He exited at 72nd Street and headed south, before turning east onto Harrison. NSP officials said the driver then turned onto a residential street that had an open field, but his vehicle became disabled.
The driver, 34-year-old Hector Toscano of California, was arrested for Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Deliver, Flight to Avoid Arrest, Willful Reckless Driving, and Speeding.
Troopers reported an inventory of the SUV led to the discovery of drug paraphernalia. A K-9 officer was brought in and discovered 137.5 pounds of marijuana hidden in the front of the trailer.
